Stars, logs, cats and a dog

I keep forgetting to blog while progressing:) I should not just wait until it is all done! Latest flimsy is a result of trying to use up the red stars that did not quite work out in its orginial plan. As none of the stars are of the same size, I 'filled' them out by making a log cabin block out of each star. I do see I need to redo a few seams...

A knitted eight point star! It's knitted in cotton, so it will be able to stand a whirl in a washing machine:)
This flimsy is a cat quilt, with cats. A quilt for cats, that is. I want to test out the theory that since cats seems to be drawn to sleep on quilts, maybe they will prefer sleeping on this - keeping the furnitures safe. We shall see. It will be tested by Spike and Buffy in a week or two.

I just had to share this picture. Newest family member, Teddy. I just love the look in his face:) He has an almost foxlike face. So cute! And the softest of furs!
Oh, and Spike got his summer cut a few weeks ago. Lion cut, they called it. I love the patterns that shows up. But according to his mother (or can-opener, as he views her) he slunked around the apartment for a few weeks. He did not seem comfortable in the new cut. And his partner, Buffy, hissed at him for days. However, I think he is better off without all the fur we weren't allow to brush... He still looks grumpy, but I guess that is just his nature. He is cute, though!

Summer!

Finally a vacation! Just two weeks, but sooo lovely. While preparing for my trip (there will be pictures later) I am spending a few days just crafting. I am trying something differen in knitting.
Yes, it looks like a twisted thing, and it is supposed to be so. It is a moebius (?). I am looking forward to seeing it when it is off the needles. I can not see the logic, yet.

And I just finished a little flimsy. Trying things out. Solid white is a new thing. I like the cripsness of the red og the white, and I kind of like all the seams:) We shall see how it works out when it is all quilted.

It Rocks!

I made it! The shawl got done before the yarn went out! It was a true race in the end, fewer and fewer stitches, lesser and lesser yarn. But the shawl won! :)

Now I just need to block it. I am so against blocking knitted material, it truly pains me to have to do it. I feel it destroys the quality of yarn completely. I still don't know why people would block a beautifully knitted elastic and fluffy garment into something completely... not! But... the pattern of this shawl would not really show without it, and it also needs to be twice it size. And it was the cobweb look of the pattern that drew me to it. So I guess I have to 'woman up' to it. Next weekend, maybe.

On the other hand, I try to sew a little now and then. I did not like the way I put the stars together earlier, so I wanted to try something else. I think I like this better. More white, with a little of red. I think it will look nice in the end.

Numbers

I am NOT good at numbers. I still have problems remembering my mother's phone number, and she has had it for the last 30 years. Thank goodness for cellphones that keeps numbers for you! I have managed to fight my way through quilt patterns and fabrics for the last decade or so, but I seem forever to mess up on the backing! Why I can not follow the patterns suggestion, I do not know. I should have learned by now.
So we end up with this, backing with a lot of seams. I was just lucky that I realised it soon enough to go back and get more of the same fabric! Oh well, the receipient won't know it wasn't supposed to be like this:) Unless she reads the blog, of course :-) Her birthday is next week. I should be done.

Otherwise, I have been experimenting. With stars,

with a little added extra. I wanted to see if I could mix my love of quilts with my love of knitting. It might work. There are so many lovely, old knitting patterns in Norway, and it would be fun to see if it could add an extra dimension to my quilts.

This is my first attempt. I used cotton, it should wash the same way as the fabrics. I hope.... We shall see. Fun to try new things, figuring things out.

On an end note - I just passed this overgrown pasture the other day (what a paradise for a horse or two!), and I am so infatuated with the lusciousness of the field, and the eyepopping green colour.
