Productive Easter

Spent yesterday being the good daughter, doing garden spring work for my mom. It is most likely the last spring they will spend in their apartment. Just heard they are on top of the waiting list for assisted living.


My niece is turning 25 later this month. She wanted a very specific pillow, among others. So i got to experiment:) Turns out freezer paper does work well as templates.


They are so romantic at that age :)


Finished the shell seeker. I had to get creative on the arms.. We shall see how that looks on....


And I tested out a cathedral block pin cushion. Love the button, it says Inspire:)

And since I now have finished most of my crafts, I guess all that is left is painting the bathroom.... Does not sound as fun as knitting.... But needed. Sigh.

African tea time

You don't choose your family. I have been lucky, I have an aunt and uncle that has been and still are a big part of my life. They are supportive, believe in me and want what is best for me. They are my sanctuary.


They have lived abroad many years, among other in Kenya. She brought back this wonderful tea pot, which has been well used over the years. She is using a knitted and felted tea cosy, that originally started its life as a hat for my uncle. However, his head is not that big. We have spent many times over that tea cosy, laughing. I thought she loved that cosy, but it turned out that she used it because it was the only thing she had. So I figured, I will make her one!


I put things together from many pictures and patterns. I wanted Africa, and all the things she loves about it. Baby elephants and bright flowers,


Baby hippo and colorful birds. I got uncle to remeasure the pot yesterday, afraid it would not fit. It does! I will give it to her next weekend when I visit them.

First finish for this vacation:)

About to spring

Spring is here. We have had the warmest March in decades. It's lovely. Of course, Easter break just started, so I guess it will be colder now. Just my luck, as I have ten days off. Oh well, I am planning crafts galore, some home improvements, garden work for my mom and visiting aunt and uncle. Hmm... Sounds a lot in ten days. We shall see:)

And a clear, beautiful blue sky. It seemed impossible spring would come at all this year. Finally!

Oh, and I got me an iPad. 3rd generation, no less! I do love gadgets. Yes, I am a geek, and proud of it;)

On my needles tonight

I just started a new sweater, a Shellseeker. I am using a Norwegian yarn, Lerke. It is a wonderful yarn, mix of merino wool and cotton. Should be perfect for our Norwegian summers:)
It is knitted from the top and down, something I haven't tried before. In addition it has a pocket in front, what we used to call a cangaroo pouch in the 'olden' days:) I am wondering if I can interpret the pattern correctly. We shall see.

Progress in a rush

Not sure why I am rushing this. I had a dream that I would be done with this sweater while it was still winter, so that I could actually use it this year. However, the days are very clearly turning into less winter and more spring, so that deadline has probably passed.

At the same time, I need to finish this before I start a new one. Traditions tells me that if I don't finish it, I never will...

Only neck left, so it should not be a big thing. Colour is a little off, it is more reddish and not so blue as the picture is showing.
I have done a little on the hexagon quilt. Still not sure what to name it. It's for a gold anniversary. My aunt and uncle, my substitute parents, have been married for 50 years. Amazing in these days and age. Goldflowers? Hexagon gold? Golden quilt? Ah, it will come to me. Does it really show that the hexagon flowers are put in circles of light and dark? Not sure if it comes through enough. Funny thing is that when I looked at it through the camera, it really stood out. Strange...

Kind of 'blah'?

I finally got around to block Bridgewater the other weekend, and have been struggling to take pictures of it since then! The colour is so ... blah that it doesn't stand out on anything these days, since we are still in late winter, early spring. But, here it is.... See if you can spot it:)
I tried to get some blue sky and a red barn in the picture, just to get some! colour...

However, colourchoices aside, I am proud of the result. I am still in awe that I can actually understand an english pattern! It is not always easy to read and understand pattern in my own language, so it feels an accomplishment to do it in another:)

The darker side

I find myself being drawn to skulls and black leather:) I have no idea why, but is has been like that for a while. I keep saying I am a goth in hiding:)

I went by a big craft store this weekend, and saw this make-it-yourself kits. One of them was a leather macrame with skulls. It made me smile, and I decided a smile these days justified getting it and making it. So I did.
And it still makes me smile:)

I wonder if that makes me slightly.... weird? And does it really matter?
